Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

As a Geotechnical Engineer you will be working within a growing team producing phase 1 desk studies, phase 2 site investigations, geotechnical design for foundations, slope stability analysis and retaining walls and remediation projects. You will also be responsible for writing technical reports and acting as site supervisor.

You will have experience managing site works, carrying out sampling techniques for geotechnical and environmental purposes and logging soils and rock to technical standards. Candidates are also expected to have a good level of report writing skills for both factual, interpretive and technical reports.

Main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Designing, organising and supervising intrusive investigations.
  • Drafting H&S risk assessments and method statements
  • Carrying out site work including trial pitting, soil logging of trial pits and boreholes to British Standards and Eurocode 7.
  • Sampling and scheduling of testing for soil, gas and groundwater samples.
  • Site walkovers
  • Phase 1 desk studies through to Phase 2 intrusive investigations and preparation of factual and interpretive reports.
  • Input into foundation design and calculation of bearing pressures.
  • Input into slope stability analysis and defining remedial measures
  • Input into settlement analysis
  • Input into retaining wall design


Skills / Qualifications

  • Proven team member
  • Experienced in relevant aspects of geotechnical and contaminated land investigation and assessment, and geotechnical design.
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Ability to work independently


Capabilities and Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or higher in a civil engineering or engineering geology discipline;
  • Working towards Chartership
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and analytical skills;
  • Must possess a driving licence and passport and be willing to travel both within the UK and Europe
