Wood is recruiting a highly qualified and enthusiastic Chemical or Geochemical Modeller to work in our offices at Harwell near Oxford. Key Responsibilities

You will work on a range of consultancy projects for customers in the UK and overseas. These typically involve

  • Chemical and geochemical modelling in support of studies of repositories for the disposal of radioactive wastes – this will concern engineered barrier systems and the surrounding geological environment, and will include the analysis of experimental data and involvement in the design of experimental programmes
  • Coupled modelling studies (thermal, chemical, hydrogeological and mechanical processes)
  • Analysing problems, developing and implementing solutions by the application of mathematical modelling techniques
  • Managing projects and modelling tasks within experimental programmes
  • Production of high quality technical reports on the outcome of your work
  • Presentation of results to customers
  • Supporting other team members with business development activities
  • Delivering work to agreed timescales and cost


Skills / Qualifications



  • A very good first degree in a natural science or equivalent discipline
  • A PhD in one of these disciplines or equivalent experience
  • Experience in aqueous chemical modelling or geochemical modelling and the use of one or more chemical modelling codes, such as PHREEQC or Geochemist’s Workbench
  • Experience in the analysis of experimental results to support the development of models
  • Technically able and innovative
  • Flexible and keen to develop your skills in the above disciplines
  • Able to work on a number of varied projects at the same time, prioritising as appropriate
  • Able to work in multi-disciplinary teams
  •  Excellent written communication
  • We will need to be able to obtain appropriate security clearance
