Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for Regional Engineering Director in either our London or Leamington Spa offices. This is an exciting opportunity within our Infrastructure business for an experienced engineering professional to lead, grow and develop an established engineering, project management and technical team within our Southern UK offices of London, Leamington, Reading and Bristol. The role will see the incumbent leading on ambitious recruitment plans, managing and developing staff as well as resourcing and deployment across our portfolio of projects. You will be expected to take Project and Bid Director roles as well as supporting the growth and implementation of our 3 year strategy to grow our multi-discipline engineering and waste management teams. This role will be visible within our E&I Europe Infrastructure business and provide the individual with a significant challenge, as well as the necessary credibility and opportunity that will come with success.


Key Duties:

  • To create and maintain an environment of high technical quality across our engineering and technical disciplines within the region
  • To support initiatives that enhance our technical offering to customers
  • To instil and embed a culture of technical excellence in team leaders and technical staff throughout the business
  • To take leadership roles in strategically important, complex or large projects
  • Seek and maintain opportunities to collaborate with E&I Europe technical leaders to encourage cross business technical learning 
  • To lead recruitment across the region to increase staff numbers by 40+ staff by end of 2017
  • To take responsibility for regional staff development/training and effective deployment across projects and proposals
  • Contribute to regional and national management teams
  • Coordinate resource deployment to southern region projects from a national pool
  • Drive effective and efficient working practice to generate target utilisation and edit


Skills / Qualifications


  • Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in an Engineering Discipline
  • Member of a relevant professional body such as ICE
  • Chartered Engineer



  • Civil Engineering Degree
  • Fellow of a relevant professional body such as ICE
