  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is seeking to expand and develop its existing successful Transport, Planning and Design team within the Environment and Infrastructure Solutions business line. We are looking for a team player to support the development of the Traffic and Highway Engineering capability and help manage a developing and enthusiastic team. Key private and public sector clients include organisations such as The Crown Estate, Defence Infrastructure Organisation, Homes and Communities Agency, National Grid, and a wide range of Local Authorities and private developers. The workload is extremely varied covering all aspects of the transport agenda and multi-modal studies including cycling, walking, public transport and safety. This position will be based in our Canary Wharf office which has multi-disciplinary capability.

     

    Key responsibilities/accountabilities:

    As a Senior/Principal traffic engineer you will be responsible for the design development of traffic engineering projects from feasibility, outline design through to detailed design and implementation. You will be reporting to an Associate Director. Your role will also be to support senior staff members in bid preparation and to develop and mentor junior staff. Duties will include but will not be limited to:

    • Developing traffic engineering and sustainable transport projects from feasibility through to detailed design and implementation
    • Support senior staff with the preparation of bids and fee proposals
    • Prepare technical reports, drawings and be able to present to client/stakeholders
    • Ensure technical content and deliverables are in line with project briefs and Wood’s Quality Management System
    • Be a point of contact for client/stakeholder engagement
    • Act as a project manager on small to medium sized projects and manage sub-consultants with minimum supervision
    • Liaise and coordinate projects between disciplines and other Wood Offices
    • Be responsible for health, safety and welfare and fulfil Designer duties under CDM 2015

     

    Skills / Qualifications

    Role requirements: In order to effectively carry out the key responsibilities the following minimum requirements will need to be demonstrated by candidates;

    • BSc, BEng or MEng degree in Engineering, Mathematics or other spatial or numerical subject or HND in Civil Engineering
    • Member of professional institution e.g. ICE, CIHT, IHE, RoSPA
    • Technical knowledge and experience in the assessment and design of traffic engineering projects including walking, cycling, public transport, junction design, road safety and speed compliance schemes
    • Familiarity and knowledge of pavement materials, design and detailing of road improvement schemes in accordance with SHW and DMRB
    • Knowledge of relevant policy, standards (local and national), guidance and current good practice in scheme design and development. This includes but is not limited to; DMRB, TSRGD, LCDS, MfS2, Traffic Signs Manual
    • Knowledge of CDM regulations and its application in scheme delivery
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills
    • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, AutoTrack, KeySign, KeyLine, Microsoft applications

    • Local authority professional services framework experience
    • Development planning S278 S106 experience
    • Public/urban realm design experience
    • Construction site supervision
    • Traffic modelling
    • Highway / drainage design experience (Civils 3D, MX)
    • Knowledge of NEC 3 contract administration
    • Chartered or nearing chartered with a relevant professional institution
