Overview / Responsibilities

 

Wood is currently recruiting an Electrical Control Engineer / Designer to support the Clean Energy Business Unit at our Birchwood and Booths Park offices. Clean Energy provides high added value engineering, technical and safety case support to our customers’ nuclear operations. Its focus is on optimising continued safe operation and delivering lifetime extensions. This vacancy is with existing teams supporting major clients in the civil and defence nuclear power generation industries.

You will have a good knowledge of British Standards within the Electrical Engineering discipline. As an Electrical Engineer you will be responsible for the Electrical design and deliverable aspects of small and large projects for nuclear build, refurbishment or decommissioning projects over the whole design lifecycle including concept, scheme and detail design phases, for a variety of clients.

Ideally you will have practical knowledge of control systems that will benefit the development of functional test rigs, as well as familiarity with in the design office where you have gained the knowledge of the types of drawings and documentation generated within a project life cycle. You will be able to produce these documents to the high standard the nuclear industry demands.

You will need to demonstrate competency in the production of electrical design documentation and instrument and control system design, relevant to the sectors in which we operate.

A practical appreciation of electrical safe systems of work, previous experience as an Electrical Authorised Person will be beneficial.

As a minimum you will need to demonstrate an established track record in the following:

  • Engineering designs for control systems using LV distribution systems & specification of electrical power and control systems.
    • Creation / checking of the following drawing types
      • Schematic diagrams
      • General arrangements
      • SLD / BCD / P&ID
      • Building layout / containment drawings
      • Earthing diagrams
      • Load / cable schedules
    • Creation / checking of the following design documentation
      • Basis of design
      • User requirements
      • Functional Specifications
      • Methods statements
      • Risk assessments
      • Factory acceptance tests
      • Commissioning / decommissioning
      • O&M manuals
    • Knowledge of
      • Amtech
      • Dialux
      • Acad
      • Microsoft office
  • Leading teams and providing technical guidance to less experienced engineers / technicians
  • Liaise with customer

 

Skills / Qualifications
