Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Structural Integrity Safety Case Engineer and GDA Practitioner with extensive experience in the nuclear industry.


  • Leading production of the whole or large parts of safety cases (PSR, PCSR, PCmSR, POSR and SSR) and related topic reports
  • Categorisation and categorisation
  • Setting the approach to claims, arguments and evidence
  • Managing other disciplines to provide analysis support
  • Management of interfaces
  • Interface with other key disciplines such as quality control to support supply chain qualification and oversight
  • Mentoring and coaching other staff
  • A track record of working on GDA or similar overall safety cases.
  • Experience working across cultures and second language skills
  • Experience of requirements management systems with a wide range of mechanical system types, specialising in pressure vessels, pumps, steam generators, piping or valves
  • Experience of turbine generators
  • Conformity assessment
  • Demonstrates high standards of nuclear safety culture

  • A good clear oral and written communicator, with a collaborative working style

  • Proven record of delivery focus and enthusiastic on delivering vibrant projects.

  • Willing to travel overseas (e.g. China, Finland, France, Japan, Korea) for short to long term deployment to client or company locations.



Skills / Qualifications


  • Extensive experience in writing large nuclear related safety cases in the UK for light water reactors, particularly structural integrity related safety cases for very high / high integrity components.
  • Understanding the requirements of GDA and experience in interactions with ONR
  • Experience in multi-legged safety cases, with additional experience in supporting one or more legs, and an understanding of manufacturing and quality control processes
  • Minimum of first Degree educated in an mechanical engineering, materials, metallurgy or physics discipline or equivalent.
  • Chartered status
