Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood has identified the need for a (Transmission and Distribution) Principal Electrical Engineer to lead substation design projects.  The role is to be based in our Darlington Office.

 

The ideal candidate will be experienced in Transmission and Disatribution Electrical Engineering, competent working with with existing HV protection and control wiring diagrams, capable in checking field installations to ensure drawings are in line with the final installed wiring, to the satisfaction of the client.

 

Purpose / Role

The purpose is to provide electrical technical support, guidance and teaching to the T&D Electrical Substation engineering teams.  The role will also require input into project specific deliverables to support project execution.

 

Prime responsibilities and duties

Full accountability for electrical engineering technical output for multi-discipline EHV/HV/MV/LV Substations in line with local client and international standards ensuring full compliance with HSSE and Quality directives. Supporting electrical design engineering resources on specific project execution. Responsible for ensuring technical output is aligned with the latest industry directives and meets local and international mandatory requirements. Input into electrical deliverables with development of engineering and approving of technical content. Support team member’s development and provide means to enhance team member’s technical skill set.  Ensure procedural compliance and support department audits.

  • Accountable for Deliverables and tasks below:
  • Technical Authority EHV/HV/MV/LV systems
  • Provide technical support, leadership and guidance to team
  • Approve AIS/GIS Switchgear and major plant equipment specifications
  • Develop Protection and Control schemes
  • Approve key engineering deliverables
  • Input into project controls, estimating, planning for efficient project execution
  • Technical support for detailed wiring, SLD, schematic and block diagrams
  • Approve engineering calculations
  • Input to Project Execution Plans and other project specific documents
  • Review vendor drawings
  • Monitoring and reporting on deliverable output
  • Construction site support
  • Input into HSSE deliverables

 

Skills / Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree – Electrical Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer status - CEng

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Master Degree – Electrical Engineering

 

Essential Experience:

  • Extensive Electrical EHV/HV/MV/LV Substation Engineering Experience
  • Significant experience in an Electrical Engineering Technical Authority Role
  • Significant Transmission and Distribution Industry experience
  • HSSE competency Construction & Engineering
  • Experience with Substation utilities and M&E works
  • Extensive experience with AIS/GIS switchgear and major electrical plant equipment: Transformers, Reactors etc
  • Extensive technical experience with EHV/HV/MV/LV power distribution schemes
  • Experience with all aspects of managing engineering deliverable production
  • Extensive Technical Competence with Protection and Control schemes
  • Quality Assurance competent
  • Competent with Industry Standard Software packages
  • Multi-discipline engineering experience
  • Significant experience with report writing and presentations
  • Familiar with latest industry local and international standards
  • Knowledge and awareness of new relevant technologies

 

Desirable Experience:

  • Significant experience working in engineering development
  • OHL experience
