Overview / Responsibilities

In order to support the growth of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion business, Wood is seeking a skilled and experienced Manufacturing Engineer to be based in our Bristol MoD Project Office and to work within our customers team on site.


As a Manufacturing Engineer you will be working within an established yet growing team operating within Amec Foster Wheeler's Consultancy & Defence Business, supporting the Ministry of Defence in the Nuclear Submarine Programme.


Role Responsibilities:

  • To provide authoritative specialist advice to MoD in support of their Manufacturing Assurance Team, on both a strategic and tactical level.
  • To act as a Subject Matter Expert in relevant Manufacturing Improvement, Assurance, Processes and Inspection areas, providing technical advice direct to MoD.
  • Representing Wood at meetings with MoD and their contractors.
  • Identifying commercial opportunities for Amec Foster Wheeler and ensuring that appropriate follow-up actions are taken
  • Maintaining and upholding Wood's codes of conduct and safety standards

Role Requirements:

  • Proven experience within industry as a Manufacturing Engineer, preferably with involvement of the manufacture of the naval nuclear propulsion programme or civil nuclear plants.  
  • Excellent communications and presentation skills
  • Relevant Manufacturing process and quality process qualifications.
  • Ability to work across a range of tasks and liaise with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work at strategic and tactical levels.

Skills / Qualifications

Role Desirables:

  • Flexibility with the ability to travel as the demands of the role dictates
  • Working knowledge of UK Regulatory systems and the organisations involved
  • Working Knowledge of UK Nuclear Safety Cases and their structure.
  • A strong self-starter mentality, able to work confidently, often un-supervised

This role is ideal for a confident and accomplished Manufacturing Engineer.  Flexibility is absolutely key to the role and you will have the opportunity to apply your skills in a variety of ways and levels within the plant manufacturing process.  You will enjoy a considerable degree of autonomy and be expected to do the right thing both technically and behaviourally in terms of acting as an ambassador for the company on client premises.  The role presents opportunities to shape a developing team and provide personal and professional rewards.
