Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Principal Civil Engineer to work in our Reading office. Your role will be to lead a team of engineers in the delivery of surface water and flood engineering concepts and designs for the proposed development at Heathrow airport.  The team will work alongside our existing flood modellers to create, develop and detail innovative, functional and cost effective engineering solutions for the proposed surface water, pollution prevention and control systems on both the existing airport and the proposed expansion.

 

We are looking for individuals that have a strong base of technical skills, with excellent organisational and communication skills gained in either a multi-disciplinary or engineering consultancy environment who now want to enhance and diversify these skills within a growing organisation that will support their future development.

 

This position will provide an excellent opportunity to work on one of the largest and most complex infrastructure projects in Europe and will allow you to grow a team to deliver this work as well as a wider portfolio of projects across a diverse range of sectors. 

 

Key Duties:

 

  • Grow, develop and lead a team of engineers to support the Heathrow Expansion Programme, with particular emphasis on the surface water systems
  • Provide leadership and technical assurance/review for all deliverables produced by the team
  • Develop capabilities and experience of team in order to sell services to other UK/international airports and/or major infrastructure projects
  • Work collaboratively with other consultants and colleagues to the benefit of the programme
  • Seek opportunities to deliver engineering services/projects to other sectors

 

Skills / Qualifications

Essential:

  • Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering
  • Chartered Engineer
  • Member of a relevant professional body such as ICE, ICHEME
  • Has worked on UK airports
  • Has experience of leading, developing and growing an engineering team
  • Has demonstrable surface/flood engineering experience
  • Has worked extensively within a multi-disciplinary or engineering consultancy
  • Has experience of working on major infrastructure projects
  • Substantial consultancy experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrable technical review/assurance skills
  • Knowledge of the CDM Regulations and Principal Designer role
  • Experience of Project Design Management 

Desirable:

 

  • Has worked for one of Wood's direct competitors
  • Has multi-sector and international experience
  • Has experience of working at Heathrow Airport
  • Has experience of working within a design and build environment, as either contractor or consultant
  • Has worked alongside flood modelling specialists
  • Working in an NEC Contract environment
