Wood is currently recruiting for a Thermal Physicist with demonstrable experience in the modelling of heat transfer problems, particularly for nuclear transport packages, although applicants with experience in other technical domains will also be considered. Finite element modelling skills will be an advantage, along with first-principles analysis, including a knowledge of other techniques such as the use of analytical solutions for heat conduction and radiation heat transfer in simple geometries, and the use of correlations for convective heat transfer. This role will present excellent opportunities for the continual development of skills and experience in thermal modelling and analysis, particularly where these are applied to nuclear engineering; also the potential to lead technical developments and collaborations, and to manage the teams responsible for their implementation.
