Overview / Responsibilities

Wood are recruiting a Lead Control & Instrumentation Designer to join our Unconventional Gas business to support clients in the Oil & Gas industry in Saudi Arabia. You will be joining an organization that delivers an integrated customer solution that draws upon the global Wood skills base and our supply chain partners.

 

Successful applicants will be responsible for the execution and delivery of the Control and Instrumentation Design. This will include the use of relevant software, such as Microstation, Microsoft Excel, Access and Smart Plant Instrumentation (InTools) to produce C&I deliverables such as Instrument Index, cable tray layout drawings, Block Diagrams, location plans, hook up drawings and loop diagrams.

 

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, have strong leadership skills, and have demonstrable design supervision experience, be confident in their own ability to deliver the Control and Instrumentation scope on a project on time and within budget, while facilitating effective work share with other execution centres around the world.

  • Perform all assigned work to agreed Safety, Health and Environmental standards and demonstrate a commitment to attaining high levels of HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) performance
  • Participate in and advise on all design activities and initiatives, including provision of training, inductions, documentation review etc.
  • Ensure that all designs are to required standards and that the project objectives are met. Ensure that the work is completed to the agreed schedule and budget
  • Maintain technical integrity. Review project schedules with the Lead C&I Engineer to verify that all dates and project requirements are realistic
  • Prepare project specific standards and job notes. Set up and operate the appropriate sections of the Document Management System (DMS)
  • Review and approve the instrument interface drawings applicable to mechanical and electrical interface
  • Develop / provide input on the 3D Model to clarify instrument requirements on the model inclusive of cable racking, junction boxes, air headers and field instrument placements
  • Review and approve instrument requisitions for instrument cable and junction boxes. Liaise closely with Instrument Designers and CAD Operators for the creation and validation of instrument design drawings and deliverables
  • Assist the Lead C&I Engineer with estimates, progress assessment and control of manpower on assigned projects. Be proactive in interacting with other disciplines to ensure overall project goals are met
  • Drive innovative solutions to reduce cost and schedule. Participate in relevant meetings, such as Model Reviews
  • Utilize suitable technology to increase efficiency. Report progress against agreed targets; identify and highlight potential issues
  • Advise management of variations in a timely manner. Support the Lead Control and Instrumentation Engineer and Management where required
  • Supervise Junior Designers and Draughts persons. Support training requirements for Design team members
  • Keep up to date with latest company procedures, client requirements and international standards

Skills / Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of C&I design experience related to the oil and gas industry
  • Minimum of 5 years working in a similar multi-discipline team environment in a supervisory position
  • Relevant qualification in drafting & design. Conversant with relevant international standards and Codes of Practice
  • Working knowledge of Saudi Aramco Standards (preferred). Working knowledge of Wood Procedures (preferred)
  • Adept with 2D CAD (Autocad & Microstation) and MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of SPI / Intools & 3D modelling, Foundation Fieldbus design methods and IEC hazardous area requirements. Keen safety awareness
  • Understanding of FEED and Detailed design deliverables, work processes, cost control & scheduling
  • Analytical thinking: Ability to identify issues, obtain relevant information, relate and compare data from different sources and identify alternative solutions
  • Communication: Excellent oral and written English language communication skills. Ability to present information to individuals or groups; ability to deliver presentations suited to the characteristics and needs of the audience. Ability to convey information clearly and concisely to groups or individuals either verbally or in writing to endure that they understand the information and the message. Ability to listen and respond appropriately to others
  • Decision making: Knowledge of and ability to use effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions and / or reaching conclusions. Ability to take action consistent with available facts, constraints and anticipated consequences
