  • Overview / Responsibilities

     

    As the demand for our expertise continues to grow, an opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Engineer with Building Services experience (IMechE), or a Building Services Engineer (CIBSE) to support our Nuclear business unit at our Gloucester office.

     

    The successful individual will be responsible for the design assurance and/or engineering substantiation of HVAC and Building Service systems including BOD, optioneering, scheme and outline design assurance. Experience of direct interface with clients, as well as excellent relationship building and consultancy skills which lead to the generation of new business would be an advantage.

     

    The successful candidate will play an important role in this growing technical workstream over the coming years and the role will provide excellent opportunities for the development of skills, particularly where these are applied to nuclear engineering. Depending upon experience, the role will offer the potential to mentor others.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    Preparation and technical assessment of:

    • Reports & Engineering Advice Notes,
    • Calculations and Calculation Notes,
    • Design Basis Assessment documents,
    • Ventilation flow sheets,
    • Equipment/ductwork sizing,
    • Containment systems cascaded building ventilation,
    • Specifications and Engineering Substantiations,

    In addition:

    • Reviewing design and design substantiation for Building Services/HVAC equipment
    • Producing/revising safety cases for Building Services/HVAC
    • Advising on maintenance/testing requirements
    • Providing advice on wide ranging technical issues and queries relating to Building Services
    • Supporting refurbishment/modification projects to extend life of plant
    • Planning and estimating of engineering work packages
    • Production of engineering deliverables in accordance with relevant regulations, codes, standards and Wood/Client quality assurance requirements
    • Assist in the design/specification of Building Services/HVAC installations
    • Attending and contributing to design / HAZOP and construction reviews
    • Ensuring Relevant Good Practice and LFE are incorporated
    • Ensure interaction with other disciplines for known interfaces

     

    Skills / Qualifications

     

     

     

    Essential Skills

    • Experience of working in the UK Nuclear Power Generation, Nuclear Decommissioning or Pharma industry as an HVAC Engineer
    • Understanding of UK regulations applicable on nuclear facilities
    • Experience in the delivery of written work. i.e specifications, Design Assessment Reports, Engineering Advice Notes, etc.
    • An undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a Building Services Engineering,
    • 7-10 years of industry experience
    • Excellent working knowledge of the HVAC discipline
    • Familiarity with CIBSE guides A, B & C
    • Familiarity with ASHRAE standards
    • Experience of working in multifunctional teams
    • Self-motivated, with an ability and desire to work collaboratively  to create new opportunities
    • Ability to think innovatively and solve complex problems
    • Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing
    • Design substantiation and justification of engineered safety measures
    • Understanding of methods to minimise the risks associated with nuclear ventilation through good plant and layout design
    • Communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals outside of the Company
    • Knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations

    Desirable Skills

    • Knowledge of and ability to apply standards and regulations related to Nuclear Ventilation such as AECP1054, NVF/DG001, ES_1738
    • Knowledge of Local Extract Ventilation systems and the design standards (BOHS P601/P602/P604)

    • Knowledge of HSE guidance on control of airborne contaminants (HSG258)

    • Experience of safety case management work
    • Knowledge/experience of design and/or substantiation of HVAC plant in hazardous/highly regulated environments
    • Knowledge/experience of operating in an environment with a graded approach to quality processes
    • Familiarity with our major customers and the processes and procedures they use to control work.

     

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering plus demonstrable experience in the discipline
    • Membership of either IMechE or CIBSE
    • Either Chartered (CEng) or Incorporated (IEng) status
    • Nuclear Industry experience (desirable but not essential)
