Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for an Earthworks Superintendent with extensive experience in the Mining and Minerals industry to be based on site in Mauritania.

 

  • Review earthworks and civil contractors QA and QMS manuals, plans and procedures for compliance with national codes and standards (for respective discipline)
  • Ensure that earthworks and civil infrastructure construction activities are conducted in accordance with procedures and set standards of the home country or as specified by EPCM contractor if deemed to be of a required high standard
  • Monitor / audit contractors to ensure prescribed quality and safety requirements are met / maintained
  • Resolve all matters associated with quality and safety which may affect the early works of the project
  • Prepare construction specific procedures and work instructions as required
  • Establish a Quality Control policy to provide documentary evidence of the quality attained on the project
  • Witness, inspect and surveil checks in accordance with the Quality Control Plan and the requirements as to best of standards of the home country or as specified by EPCM contractor if deemed to required high standard
  • Ensure that all Quality Control checks and tests are instigated, with records maintained and available and area released in accordance with contractors Quality Control Plan
  • Attend contractor progress meetings in order to provide detailed reports and interface between client and EPCM contractor
  • Co-ordinate / communicate various issues among the client / consultants that affect the earthworks and civil engineering design, safety, and regulatory compliance of the work
  • Facilitate and co-ordinate earthworks and civil engineering technical work inputs to contractors
  • Evaluate / comment on work performed by the company and any sub-contractors to ensure that the work is being executed in accordance with project standards and home country regulatory requirements
  • Review of earth works and civil design drawings and documents
  • Generate earthworks and civil engineering queries from the company as well as technical information requests
  • Participate in kick off meetings and progress meetings with the sub-contractors
  • Ensure implementation of established procedures
  • Expedite material control function material delivery, distribute and availability in accordance with planned activities

Skills / Qualifications

  • National Diploma in civil engineering
  • Experience in earthworks and infrastructure development
  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience in construction within the mining / minerals processing environment
  • Experience in providing design input into projects within an EPCM environment
  • Experience with road building, earthworks and civil structures
  • Must be able to manage and control site quality control of all disciplines
  • Must be able to manage and control site safety of all disciplines
