  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Role Overview

    The Mechanical Engineering Technician will work as part of an integrated project team to deliver high quality engineering services to clients across the Nuclear Defence Sector.

    The core responsibility of this role is to support the mechanical engineers in tasks ranging from assessing specifications of current mechanical systems, plant and equipment for process systems to designing replacement plant and equipment.  Although based out of the Reading office, this will include being based on client sites

    Typical Work Activities

    • Assist the Engineering Manager/Responsible Engineer in managing cross discipline interfaces
    • Drawing up plans for new ideas, using computer-aided design (CAD) software
    • Investigating and testing ideas to improve existing systems and solve problems
    • Researching and presenting evidence that the design meets the operational/design requirements, and any Safety Functional Requirements
    • Prepare Development Specifications and associated documents
    • Draft engineering documents in line with the technical and quality plan
    • Draft installation, inspection, test and commissioning requirements for all relevant equipment specified in the design
    • Carry out site surveys of mechanical plant and equipment and document the results
    • Provide input to design documents, detailed equipment specifications/proposals and production of technical specifications to define quality levels
    • Quality and configuration control of design and documentation
    • Design change assessment

    Skills / Qualifications

    Essential Skills and Experience

    • High pass GCSEs in Maths and English
    • HNC,HND or Foundation Degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent Eng Tech registration and Membership of an appropriate Institute
    • Computer literate with a good understanding of the Microsoft office 2010 package
    • Committed to Continuous Professional Development

    Desirable Skills and Experience

    • Industry design, operations and maintenance experience would be advantageous
    • Proficiency in  CAD
    • Have access to and use of own transport for work related travel

    Special Requirements

    Must be at least British National with eligibility for full UK security clearance
