  • Overview / Responsibilities


    A diverse and challenging position for a Mechanical Design Engineer with +10 year’s experience and Project Management Experience has become available for a self-motivated and highly organised individual to join Nuclear Consultants International (Pty) Ltd, based in Cape Town.

    Job Purpose


    Perform engineering duties in planning and designing, of mechanically functioning equipment. Oversee installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of such equipment.  also requires Project Management Experience.



    Design Engineering

    • Mechanical design of assigned projects from conception to approval then to implementation and hand-over.
    • Compile design packages according to client requirements, local SANS Standards as well as ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME III and other design codes and standards as required.
    • Integrate various design disciplines (electrical, I&C and civil) into one complete design solution
    • Specify the installation requirements and methods, bills of materials; prepare the testing and commissioning requirements and procedures, provide installation support and sign-offs.
    • Conduct design package and implementation package reviews
    • Compile and review Design Calculations


    Project implementation

    • Providing design support during various project implementation phases
    • On site problem solving and redesign during plant outages


    New Business Development

    • Tender compilation requesting quotations, processing and accessing quotations, conducting manpower estimations and supplier assessments
    • Interpreting client requirements, specifications and enquiries in order to provide the best solution for the tenders
    • Technical solution compilation
    • Ensuring sub-contractor and supplier compliance with client requirements
    • General assistance to the Business Development Managers with tenders


    Skills / Qualifications



    • BSc / BEng or BTech in Mechanical Engineering
    • Project Management
    • High proficiency with SolidWorks & AutoCAD
    • Computer Skills (Microsoft Word, Excel etc.)
    • Engineering Certificate of Competency (ECSA registered)
    • Nuclear Engineering Course
    • A Sound knowledge of ASME specifications.
    • Min 5-year nuclear experience in Design Engineering
