Overview / Responsibilities


Wood is currently recruiting for a Nuclear HVAC Engineer to join our Nuclear Decommissioning business at our Warrington office. The role is to become part of a project team undertaking design and consultancy for nuclear containment ventilation systems in areas of decommissioning but also growth areas of New Build and major EPC.        


He shall deliver design or substantiation projects related to Nuclear HVAC and Building Service systems including design studies, optioneering, scheme and detail design, preparation of design basis documents, ventilation flow diagrams, calculations, equipment/ductwork sizing, containment systems, cascaded building ventilation, specification writing and design assessment reports.




Skills / Qualifications

Candidate should meet the following requirements:


  • Good understanding of UK nuclear ventilation codes and standards.
  • Knowledge & experience in the design and substantiation of high integrity nuclear ventilation systems.
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role/environment, with 5 to 10 years of experience working within the nuclear industry.
  • Experience and capability in leading teams of designers and engineers to deliver technically complex and challenging engineering projects.
  • Experience in the production of ventilation system design deliverables, i.e. Ventilation Flow Diagrams (VFDs), Basis of Design (BoD), Plant Sizing Calculations (Heating/Cooling/Fan Sizing), Control Philosophy.
  • Ability to undertake reviews of HVAC documents and drawings in line with company procedures.
  • Experience in the delivery of written work, i.e. Equipment Specifications, Design Assessment Reports.
  • Ability to respond to TQ’s from sub-contractors and suppliers, review of manufacturing and installation drawings, witnessing of Factory Acceptance Tests & Site Acceptance Testing.
  • Ability to provide estimates and engineering proposals in response to client enquires or to support business development.
  • Hold a minimum HND or equivalent, ideally will hold a Degree in mechanical, building services or nuclear engineering.
  • Hold membership of a relevant professional engineering instruction or associate membership close to achieving full membership.
  • Willingness/ability to travel to other Amec Foster Wheeler offices or client premises for meetings and surveys as required.
  • SC Level Security Clearance.
  • Commitment and contribution to a strong safety culture.
