Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking a GIS Consultant to join our Environment and Infrastructure team in either our Reading or Shrewsbury office.

 

The successful individual will join our growing team of Information Management specialists and will contribute to the development and delivery of GIS analysis, mapping and spatial solutions for a diverse range of environmental, infrastructure and planning studies.   Our portfolio of clients includes DAERA Northern Ireland, EDF Energy, Environment Agency, Heathrow Airport Limited, Horizon Nuclear Power, High Speed 2 (HS2); Isle of Anglesey Council, National Grid, Nugeneration, Tullow Oil and the West Midlands Combined Authority.

 

Role responsibilities will include contributing to the development and maintenance of ESRI Collector mobile mapping apps; developing and maintaining ESRI Portal and Online websites; creation of FME workflows; development and automation of mapping workflow using ESRI technologies; and the delivery of analysis tasks using ArcGIS and ArcGIS Spatial Analyst.

 

Skills / Qualifications

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate high level of GIS technical skills.  

 

We are also particularly interested in candidates, who have developed their current skills while working for a UK based environmental/ engineering consultancy, and prior experience in delivering major environmental, infrastructure and planning projects. Specific coding experience with Python and ArcPy would also be advantageous.

 

Desirable skills include:

  • ESRI ArcGIS geoprocessing modelling and scripting
  • ESRI based Python/Arcpy GIS programming skills
  • ESRI Enterprise Geodatabase, SQL Server and/or MS Access database design and implementation
  • Web development (HTML and Javascript)
  • Web mapping solutions using ArcServer and/or ArcGIS Online
  • FME workflow design and development; open source GIS (QGIS), PostgrSQL, PostGIS and/or ArcGIS Spatial Analyst/image processing software experience.

Qualifications

 

Suitable candidates will also be expected to have (as a minimum) an MSc qualification in GIS or Geomatics; and/or a minimum of two years GIS consultancy experience.
