Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking a Principal Ecologist to join our Environmental Services team in Brisbane.


The role will manage a team of ecologists and environmental scientists to deliver a range of environmental projects across a number of industry sectors including oil and gas, mining and infrastructure. The person will also lead the development and growth of Wood’s ecology and related service lines (including marketing, engaging with existing and new clients, preparation of tenders and development of ecology practises and systems).


Key Responsibilities

  • Design, manage and undertake environmental studies and reporting, including project management and coordination, study design, fieldwork, authorship and review/QA of ecology studies and other environmental documentation as required by clients
  • Business development and promotion of the Company, with a focus on our ecology and related environmental management services, to a wide range of strategic industries with the purpose of winning work and broadening our existing client base
  • Managing and where appropriate writing and compiling expressions of interests and proposals for strategic opportunities
  • Compiling, reviewing and submitting ecology study reports and other environmental documents
  • Supervising sub-consultants carrying out specialist studies
  • Liaising with clients, stakeholders and agencies as required by each assignment

Skills / Qualifications

  • Degree in Science (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with prospective and existing clients.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and/or leading personnel in fieldwork and ensuring safety protocols are followed
  • Demonstrated experience in providing high quality and timely environmental consultancy services, with particular experience in ecology and other related environmental areas
  • Demonstrated experience in project management
  • Knowledge of environmental legislation and approvals processes
  • Experience and knowledge of ecological assessment methods and applicable legislation and guidelines regarding ecology surveys, including for threatened species
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure ecological assessments and reports are of a consistently high quality and scientifically sound
  • Excellent communication skills
