    Wood is currently recruiting for an Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Substantiation Engineer with experience in the Nuclear industry.


    The BEP EPC project will safely design and deliver a Plant and the works in accordance with the requirements of their contract.The project is executed as a Joint Venture from a number of locations, with offices in Birchwood, Stockton-on-Tees, Cumbria and Leyland.


    The BEP facility will hold a Site Licence. BEP shall undertake a method of substantiation which demonstrates that the design meets the safety requirements. Substantiation requires people who are familiar with a nuclear site, can understand Site Licence conditions and how the BEP design meets the requirements and how to identify and document the evidence to substantiate this. This will involve producing documents in accordance with a given strategy. A series of key documents termed Design Justification Reports (DJRs) shall be produced together with supporting information.

    The work is to author, check and approved the DJRs and compile the packages that will form the substantiation submissions to the client.


    The engineer will work for the project’s Engineering Function, reporting to an Engineering Manager. The work shall be undertaken in compliance with the requirements of a quality management system. The work shall be programmed (scheduled); this and budgets shall be strictly adhered to. Change management shall be exercised.

    The following are the role requirements: 

    • Work closely with the project execution teams to identify safety case, licence documents and construction strategies together with the type, source and suitability of project deliverables that provide substantiation of the claims made.
    • Determine structure, details, generate and check quality documents of clarity and consistency to provide the substantiation. The key documents will be a series of DJRs; support information will also be required.
    • Manage the creation and control of documents in compliance with the requirements of the quality management system.
    • Originate and check deliverables.
    • Search within a document management system termed SharePoint for the relevant and required documents.
    • Work closely with the project teams to better understand, clear actions and agree that requirements are being met.
    • Call, attend and manage meetings.
    • Track, expedite and advise on the status.
    • Report and be prepared to present on progress and status.
    • Present the deliverables and the packages.
    • Take forms to project and client persons to ensure the forms are being distributed correctly and that the recipients are encouraged to respond in the time scale required. This will include communicating with people in different offices.

    Skills / Qualifications


    • Experience in a similar role.
    • Enthusiastic with a can-do attitude to work under minimum supervision.
    • Able to work with people, approachable and assertive.
    • Familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.
    • Relevant engineering qualification


    • Chartered status or equivalent
    • Experience with Sellafield Limited.
