Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Principal Electrical Engineer with extensive experience in the Oil and Gas Petrochemical industry.


Saudi Aramco has selected Wood to develop a FEED for a mega program in the Onshore Eastern Province surrounding Tanajib, Safaniyah and Ju’aymah in Saudi Arabia. The increased crude and gas production will demand the initial expansion of an onshore GOSP (gas oil separation plant) at Tanajib, a Greenfield 2.5bnscf (billion standard cubic feet) gas plant, together with NGL (natural gas liquid) expansion at Wasit. This will all be supported by a new cogeneration power plant expected to generate 750 Mw (megawatts) for both onshore and offshore compression, together with power for onshore utilities. 


  • Review and approve projects schedules on assigned projects with the Project Engineer to confirm that all dates, rates of progress and design periods are realistic
  • Design and approve all electrical work on assigned projects including preparation and approval of project related standards on assigned projects. Ensure that detail design methods, standards and data used on assigned projects meet the Client’s requirements and / or those issued by Amec Foster Wheeler
  • Prepare and approve general notes requisitions for electrical equipment on assigned projects. Review and approve all electrical drawings, check design quality and technical accuracy on assigned projects including assistance to designers with the preparation of electrical drawings on assigned projects
  • Specify and prepare material requisitions for electrical equipment on assigned projects, prepare technical bid evaluations for electrical equipment on assigned projects
  • Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT’s) and Sites Acceptance Tests (SAT’s) for electrical equipment (or equipment with significant electrical content) on assigned projects
  • Support the Construction Department in the preparation and review of Construction Contracts, selection of bidders, evaluation of tenders and the attend site meetings as required
  • Review in conjunction with Procurement Department all claims on assigned projects by suppliers for an increase in the engineering scope of work
  • Provide information where necessary to estimate the cost of contract changes on assigned projects. Alert the project Engineer / project Manager to circumstances considered to be subject to contract change
  • Provide progress report information on assigned projects, at the required frequency and with the required content to the project Engineer
  • Follow up electrical construction work on assigned projects on project sites to ensure correct interpretation of designs regarding installation
  • Advise the Chief Electrical Engineer and Engineering Manager of any slippages / deviations and their causes and proposed corrective action and of any technical problems and unresolved differences with other groups
  • Suggest ways to improve efficiency, costs and service in the execution of projects
  • Advise the Chief Electrical Engineer and Engineering Manager of possible fields for technical investigations and computer programs, deficiencies and possible improvements to the established AmecFW design methods, standards and data. Carry out technical investigations, including development of computer programs and produce technical reports as and when required. Accept responsibility as requested for development and maintenance of expertise in specific areas of technology
  • Ensure that engineering activities are executed within budgeted man-hours and approved schedules in compliance with project procedures, standards and specifications and in accordance with Amec Foster Wheeler procedures and requirements of the local Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Perform technical audits on the electrical aspects of projects for which he / she is not directly responsible

Skills / Qualifications

  • BSc (Electrical Engineering) / BEng
  • Pr. Engineer or Chartered Engineer
  • Must have 15+ years’ relevant experience
  • Aramco Project experience or GCC project experience on Oil & Gas Projects
