Overview / Responsibilities

Wood are currently recruiting for a Benefits Lead to work in our Aberdeen office.  This is an interesting and exciting time to join the business with the recent coming together of Wood Group and Amec Foster Wheeler.


The Benefits Lead supports the Compensation & Benefits Director in the provision and management of employee benefits within the Region. The Benefits Lead will proactively lead employee benefits initiatives and projects within the region. The Benefits Lead will be responsible for providing advice and support to the P&O function, business management and other stakeholders in all aspects of employee benefits and will take an active role in all benefit plan renewals, communications and day-to-day management of any associated benefits systems. A key objective of this role will be to drive local benefit provision to be internally fair and externally competitive within each country in the region.


Duties will include;


  • Provide specialist advice and support to the business in all aspects of employee benefits. This includes providing training and updates regarding employee benefits to the P&O team on a regular basis to ensure sufficient knowledge and understanding within the P&O operational team to answer first line employee queries
  • Lead on coordination of all local benefit plan renewals in accordance with renewal deadlines, including initial contact with relevant broker to obtain renewal terms, manage the coordination of renewal data and leading on communication updates as required as part of the renewal. Support the C&B Director on presentation of renewal recommendation/proposal, including full cost analysis
  • Responsible for ongoing day-to-day management of relevant benefits systems by ensuring that effective processes are in place and are adhered to - ensuring that a high level of data quality is maintained at all times
  • Act as first point of contact for global benefits brokers’ local teams. This will include arranging, attending and contributing to benefit review meetings, liaising with providers regarding any queries and managing the invoicing process
  • Analysis of statistics provided by benefits providers to ensure that trends/claims experience are tracked, highlighting any potential impact regarding ongoing provision and or/costs to the C&B Director
  • Take a lead role in ensuring that employee benefits communications are relevant and up-to-date and available via appropriate internal communications. In conjunction with relevant benefit providers, produce employee communications following benefit renewals, changes to current benefits, or provision of new benefit plans
  • Be proactive in keeping abreast of legislative changes / developments in field of Employee Benefits to ensure that the Company maintains a competitive benefits package and is compliant with legislation. This will also involve carrying out benchmarking of the Wood benefits package to the market on a regular basis as appropriate
  • Continuously review opportunities to develop and improve Benefit processes and policies. Engage proactively with P&O to ensure all appropriate elements of any Benefit process are embedded within the business
  • Carry out advanced data analysis, risk and cost assessment to produce reports to determine project feasibility and provide support or Regional or Global Benefits projects as required
  • Consult and collaborate with Regional P&O to review business needs in all aspects of employee benefits whilst engaging with Group Centre to ensure standardisation is retained where possible
  • Develop and manage the completion of compliance audits and benefit scheme evaluations. Review all outcome reports to identify and highlight any risk areas or recommendations of improvement to the C&B Director
  • Provide leadership, guidance and day to day oversight of Compensation and Benefits Analyst(s)

Skills / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree level qualified or equivalent experience

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • Demonstrate strong technical knowledge of Rewards, primarily employee benefits, and experience working across both white and blue-collar employee populations. 
  • Previous experience in a Reward role or generalist P&O role working with complex compensation practices preferred
  • Exposure to an international work environment is highly desirable. 
  • Possess the ability to communicate complex principles effectively at all levels within the organization.
  • Demonstrate teamwork, respect, integrity, innovation and a customer focused approach. 
  • Results focused and can appreciate how their strategies impact the bigger picture.
  • Advanced analytical skills
  • Knowledge of regional employment law and government legislation
