Overview / Responsibilities
Wood has a long established but still growing team of over 70 ecologists (including a 20 strong ornithology team), delivering high quality services on projects in a variety of sectors, including transport; renewables; nuclear; other power; oil and gas; industry; waste, minerals; property and the public sector. We are seeking to recruit a talented and ambitious Assistant Ornithologist or Consultant Ornithologist to join our Northern team, based in Newcastle.
Wood offers an excellent salary package, including a company car, as well as a tailored training programme and great opportunities for career progression.
We are working on a number of exciting major infrastructure projects in the UK. With our expanding project portfolio we are seeking to recruit talented and ambitious Ornithologists (Assistant Consultant / Consultant) to join our Northern Ecology team, working all over the UK but mainly in Scotland and Northern England.
You will be working within an established team of ornithologists and ecologists and would be expected to provide assistance and support for our on-going workload in a variety of locations and projects ranging from estuarine SPA wader monitoring in lowland England to major infrastructure and power developments in Northern England and the borders and highlands of Scotland.
The main focus of the role will be assisting the team with initial visits to sites for new projects and to undertake survey work on these and existing projects. There will be the opportunity to assist in the management of site fieldwork schedules, in the production of baseline bird reports and be involved in data entry and GIS. There will also be the opportunity to assist the wider ecology team with other ecological surveys and any wider ecological experience in protected species surveys would be highly desirable. Data gathering, surveying and the interpretation of results will be key to the role.
Located in our Newcastle upon Tyne office, this post provides the opportunity to join an experienced team who will assist in your continued professional development within a leading UK consultancy firm.
Wood is looking for an individual who is a competent and appropriately experienced ornithologist experienced in carrying out baseline ornithological surveys, ideally in a consultancy environment. Typically, we would expect around two years' experience in ornithological survey and appraisal or field based research to have developed the skills required for the post.
Candidates with a higher level of experience and ability will be considered for the higher grade Consultant Ornithologist role. Wider ecological survey skills would be highly desirable although not essential.
