    Wood is recruiting for a Senior Safety Case Engineer to be based at our offices in Harwell, Oxfordshire.

    This role is suitable for a safety case professional with demonstrable experience in delivering solutions to the civil nuclear, defence or other high hazard sectors. The candidate will have experience of working in a regulated industry, providing safety case support throughout the life cycle of high hazard facilities and processes.

     

    As a senior consultant you will be expected to take a key role in the delivery of safety case support to clients, often on complex projects, either working independently or supervising and supporting staff who are at an earlier stage in their career to ensure that their work is delivered to the required standard. You may also be asked to support the development business opportunities.

    Key Responsibilities

     

    You will be involved in delivering a diverse range of consultancy projects for our customers mainly in the nuclear sector. Key aspects of the role are listed below.

     

    • Contributing to nuclear safety consultancy projects at a senior level;
    • Leading the analysis of problems, discussing and developing solutions with colleagues and customers;
    • Producing and leading others in the production of high quality technical reports;
    • Checking and approval of the work of other team members;
    • Interfacing with customers throughout the lifecycle of projects including the presentation of results;
    • Supporting development of new business opportunities;
    • Leading/assisting with the production of contract proposals and bids;
    • Supporting maintenance of the technical capability/knowledge of the team;
    • Delivering projects to time, cost and quality to ensure customer satisfaction.

    Skills / Qualifications

    Qualifications

    We are seeking high calibre candidates who have:

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal);
    • An innovative, creative and pragmatic outlook to enable us to deliver effective solutions for our clients;
    • A positive, proactive and enthusiastic approach
    • A first degree in an appropriate scientific discipline;
    • Corporate membership of a relevant professional institution;
    • Experience of the delivery of safety cases within the nuclear or other highly regulated high hazard industry;
    • Experience of engineering design and/or substantiation processes in the nuclear or other highly regulated high hazard industry;
    • Experience of direct client interaction;
    • Experience or knowledge of safety assessment techniques including hazard identification, SWIFT, HAZOP as Chair, Secretary or safety expert, development of fault schedules, fault / event tree analysis, radiological consequence assessment, qualitative / quantitative risk assessment, production of ALARP arguments, Regulatory expectations;
    • A full, clean UK Driver’s License;
