  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood are currently recruiting for an exciting opportunity within our Infrastructure business for an experienced engineering professional to lead and develop an established engineering and technical team within our Southern UK offices of London, Bristol, Leamington Spa, Reading and Birmingham. The successful candidate can be based in any one of these 5 offices. 

     

    The role will see the incumbent working with regional discipline leads on recruitment, staff development as well as resourcing and deployment. Project work is within the nuclear new build, aviation, and oil & gas (water and waste) sectors. In addition, to the above primary roles, we would expect, over the medium to long term, that the individual, also takes responsible for: 

     

    • Developing good working relationships with our water management and engineering teams to develop a flood engineering service sellable to public and private sector clients that builds on and complements our existing flood risk management capabilities. You will take an active role in the expansion this service, taking accountability for the engineering aspects of the service.
    • Working with our water sector team, to support the bidding for AMP7 opportunities. If successful, you will also take an active role in the management and delivery of the design/engineering elements of the service. This could include: recruitment, Project Direction, technical assurance and/or commercial roles.

     

    Key Duties:

    • To support initiatives that enhance our technical offering to customers
    • To instil and embed a culture of technical excellence in team leaders and technical staff throughout the region
    • Seek and maintain opportunities to collaborate with E&IS Europe technical leaders to encourage cross business technical learning
    • To lead recruitment across the region to increase staff numbers to match business strategy
    • To be accountable for regional staff development/training and effective deployment across projects and proposals
    • Contribute to regional and national management teams
    • Coordinate resource deployment to southern region projects from a national pool
    • Drive effective and efficient working practice to generate target utilisation and edit

    Skills / Qualifications

    Essential:

    • Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in an Engineering Discipline
    • Member of a relevant professional body such as ICE
    • Chartered Engineer
    • Has experience of leading, developing and growing an engineering team
    • Has demonstrable surface/flood engineering experience
    • Has worked extensively within a multi-disciplinary or engineering consultancy
    • Has experience of working on major infrastructure projects
    • Substantial consultancy experience
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Demonstrable technical review/assurance skills
    • Knowledge of the CDM Regulations and Principal Designer role
    • Experience of Project Design Management 

    Desirable

    • Has worked for one of Wood's direct competitors
    • Has multi-sector and international experience
    • Has experience of working within a design and build environment, as either contractor or consultant
    • Has worked alongside flood modelling specialists
    • Working in an NEC Contract environment
