  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is seeking applications from experienced Area Lead Engineers (Multidiscipline) to support the Albemarle Kemerton project based in our Perth Office.


    Albemarle Kemerton Plant, a greenfield world scale Lithium Hydroxide Monohydrate production plant to be located at the Kemerton Strategic Industrial Area approximately 160 km south of Perth, Western Australia, and 17 km north-east of the existing port town of Bunbury.


    The Albemarle Kemerton Plant will initially comprise of three (3) trains, each producing 20,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) Lithium Hydroxide Monohydrate. First product target by 2020. Expansion to five (5) trains will take the ultimate site production to 100,000 tpa by around 2025. Wood has been appointed by Albemarle to implement the Albemarle Kemerton Plant.



    • Accountable for the quality of deliverables of the discipline design section in line with the needs of the customer and regulatory authorities.
    • Responsible for production and/or review of engineering deliverables including HAZOP, models, milestones, peers, drawings, calculations, specifications, reports, evaluations etc.
    • Allocate tasks and assist other engineers to balance demands of time and budget.
    • Ensure that information flow to drafting and other disciplines serves to maximise output (clear, concise, correct and practical).
    • Provide technical and commercial direction to engineers in relation to design quality, design schedules and design budgets.
    • Monitor the progress and performance of project discipline teams. Give input and provide feedback and support where necessary.
    • Provide feedback to the Project Engineering Manager on design progress budget and schedule.
    • Provide technical support to the onsite construction teams, projects department and estimating department.
    • Review and approve vendor data and oversee design scope changes.
    • Perform site inspections, functionality testing and commissioning documentation.
    • Analyse feedback from fabricators and construction personnel to improve performance.
    • Provision of mentoring and manage a team.


    Skills / Qualifications

    • Minimum of 15 years’ general engineering experience in a relevant discipline (mechanical, E&I or process), with at least 5 years in roles that cover multidiscipline activities.
    • Sound technical engineering knowledge.
    • Good organisational and time management skills.
    • Ability to problem-solve effectively.
    • Effective communication skills.
    • Ability to effectively work in a team.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Strong analytical, literacy and numerical skills.
    • Well-developed computer skills and knowledge of databases, spreadsheets and engineering programs.
    • Understanding of Australian and common International standards and regulatory authority requirements in the relevant processing sector.
    • Ability to identify risks and work safely.
