    Wood is currently recruiting for a Project Management (PMO) Assurance Manager to join the team in any of the following locations: London, Reading, Leamington Spa, or Newcastle.


    E&IS UK provides consultancy services to a range of private and public sector customers including environmental science, architecture, engineering and design, policy, modelling and geotechnical / remediation advice.  Our customers include organisations involved in the delivery of buildings and infrastructure in sectors including Defence, Transport, Utilities and Government. Each service we provide to our customers is managed as a project within E&IS from the proposal stage through delivery to final project closure when the service to our customer is complete.  E&IS UK has over 1,000 active projects delivered by around 300 project managers. The E&IS UK PMO is an internal service supporting our project managers in the delivery of our projects through ownership of the project management methodology, undertaking assurance and reporting on project performance, managing project manager competence assessment and training and supporting project managers in the effective control of projects in our ERP system, including project set up, monthly performance review and closure. 


    The PMO Assurance Manager is responsible for defining and applying Wood’s Project Management Assurance methods and practices, to secure project success. The Assurance Manager supports and delivers the overall Project governance function and is responsible for supporting and enabling the organisation's projects, programs.  The central aspect of the role is to validate that projects are undertaking assurance activities in line with mandatory procedures.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Organisational Subject Matter Expert for Project Management (PM) specific Assurance
    • Co-ordination of Independent Assurance on category A, B and C1 (high complexity) projects
    • Maintain, develop and enhance PM assurance good practice
    • Centralised collation and reporting of assurance data
    • Management of direct reports
    • Implement and manage project management governance and assurance approach for managing the organisations portfolio of projects across all business units and managing reporting of progress
    • Report business wide Project Assurance key metrics to Operations Director
    • Develop and maintain project performance reporting including major risk and issue reporting and escalation, ensuring risks are correctly and consistently reported and recorded
    • Ownership for Category of the internal governance and approval processes

    Skills / Qualifications

    Technical Skills, Knowledge and Experience

    • Experience of project review, assurance and assessment
    • Experienced within a PMO environment
    • Experience leading projects from inception to completion
    • Extensive background with project management processes, techniques and tools
    • Capable of defining, explaining and maintaining a high-level, longer-term view of projects' relationships
    • Experience in the implementation of project controls systems for analysis and reporting
    • Knowledge of Agresso or Oracle platforms would be advantageous
    • Knowledge of Project Controls and project performance reporting
    • Good Commercial knowledge
    • Experience in the development and compliance assurance of Quality Management Systems

    • Good written, verbal and data analysis skills
    • Confident communicator and influencer at a delivery level
    • Ability to establish and maintain high level relationships across the organisation
    • Skilled at managing interpersonal relations to build rapport with Functional assurance providers
    • Ability to successfully manage multiple concurrent objectives or activities, and effectively make decisions to prioritise tasks and allocate time
    • Ability to work in a multi-office environment and willingness to travel to other offices as required


    Qualifications and Accreditations


    • MSc or Degree in Programme/ Project management, Business subject or Infrastructure related subject
    • Membership of appropriate professional institution – APM or PMI , (MCIOB, CIBSE, ICE, RICS, CMI - accepted)



    • Security Cleared (or willingness to conduct vetting process)
    • Post graduate qualification appropriate to infrastructure
    • Project Management related qualification would be advantageous - MoP, MSP, MoR, MoV, Change Management, AGILE, P30
