    Wood is currently recruiting for a Project Management (PMO) Senior Project Officer to join the team in Newcastle.


    E&IS UK provides consultancy services to a range of private and public sector customers including environmental science, architecture, engineering and design, policy, modelling and geotechnical / remediation advice.  Our customers include organisations involved in the delivery of buildings and infrastructure in sectors including Defence, Transport, Utilities and Government. Each service we provide to our customers is managed as a project within E&IS from the proposal stage through delivery to final project closure when the service to our customer is complete. E&IS UK has over 1,000 active projects delivered by around 300 project managers. The E&IS UK PMO is an internal service supporting our project managers in the delivery of our projects through ownership of the project management methodology, undertaking assurance and reporting on project performance, managing project manager competence assessment and training and supporting project managers in the effective control of projects in our ERP system, including project set up, monthly performance review and closure. 


    The PMO Senior Project Officer is responsible for supervising and ensuring the provision of effective and accurate  commercial and financial administrative support to projects across multiple Business Units. The Senior Project Officer reports to the Head of Business Systems and sits within the business’ Project Management Offce (PMO). The Project Officers will be supporting projects of varying complexity across the Environment and Infrastructure sectors. These projects sit within a multitude of customer markets, and as such have a wide variety of billing and contractural conditions to be met. Projects are highly varied and range from £1000 to £millions, including Frameworks and individual commissions, for a wide range of customers and markets both in the UK and abroad.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Management of PMO Project Officer level resources
    • Establishment and successful roll-out of changes to business practices, effectively handing over current PM financial system responsibilities from the PMs to the PMO Project Officers and ensuring no adverse impacts on the business (under direction of the Head of Business Systems)
    • Working closely with the Business Systems team to ensure internal procedures, forms and guidance relating to Project Management Financial and administrative support processes are in place and up to date, developing and updating as required
    • Work with the Supply Chain function to maintain the supply chain register
    • Provide support to Financial Assurance activities both within the PMO function, and also to Project Managers and Operational /Financial staff
    • Provide support to Assurance audits
    • Manage the provision of financial, commercial and administrative support to a variety of projects
    • Ensure that the team is correctly creating and maintaining project financial data and managing this throughout the project lifecycle, and completing this work on larger projects.
    • Supporting Assurance teams to ensure that all projects comply with the organisation’s Financial Audit and Assurance procedures
    • Train and mentor the Project Officer team in correct practice and procedures covering project financial administration
    • Ensure Project Officer tasks are managed and allocated appropriately, to support business and PM needs, resolving issues where required

    Skills / Qualifications

    Technical Skills, Knowledge and Experience

    • Highly experienced in business administration and finance
    • Experience of the PMO, Project and Program environment
    • Knowledge of project management processes, techniques and tools
    • Extensive project experience on low-high complexity projects through the full project life cycle
    • Experience in the development of ‘best practice’ and organisational standards or processes
    • Knowledge of Agresso software or a similar ERP
    • Knowledge of Oracle software – advantageous
    • Microsoft office skills -intermediate to advanced -especially Excel
    • Knowledge of ISO 9001
    • Resourcing experience in a rapidly changing environment with conflicting needs, particularly financial month ends
    • Change Management experience in a large organisation
    • Training and coaching experience

    Qualifications and Accreditations


    • Degree or higher level academic qualification in Business Administration related subject, or equivalent experience
    • Membership of appropriate professional institution


    • Security Cleared (or willingness to conduct vetting process)
