    Wood is currently recruiting for a Project Management (PMO) Senior Project Specialist to join the team in any of the following locations: London, Reading, Leamington Spa, or Newcastle.


    E&IS UK provides consultancy services to a range of private and public sector customers including environmental science, architecture, engineering and design, policy, modelling and geotechnical / remediation advice.  Our customers include organisations involved in the delivery of buildings and infrastructure in sectors including Defence, Transport, Utilities and Government. Each service we provide to our customers is managed as a project within E&IS from the proposal stage through delivery to final project closure when the service to our customer is complete. E&IS UK has over 1,000 active projects delivered by around 300 project managers. The E&IS UK PMO is an internal service supporting our project managers in the delivery of our projects through ownership of the project management methodology, undertaking assurance and reporting on project performance, managing project manager competence assessment and training and supporting project managers in the effective control of projects in our ERP system, including project set up, monthly performance review and closure. 


    The PMO Senior Project Specialist is responsible for the management of the PMO Centre of Excellence (COE) and reports to the Head of PMO. They are responsible for the application of PM Good Practice and maintaining/developing PM competency within the organisation to support PM maturity.


    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and maintain project delivery processes and tools to be utilised by Project Managers
    • Ensure all documentation complies with ISO 9001 requirements
    • Provide expert advice on PM Good Practice to the operational business units
    • Provide support to projects in the establishment of documentation and processes
    • Ensure the PM Competency database is maintained and support in the identification of suitably experienced individuals for projects
    • Develop and deliver PM training required by the organisation
    • Identify training needs or weaknesses within the organisation
    • Monitor and develop learning plans under the organisations ‘Succession’ approach
    • Support Closure process through independent workshops on progressive learning
    • Conduct/Chair Progressive Learning meetings.
    • Ensure all Progressive Learning is communicated across the business
    • Build and maintain relationships with senior leadership and key PMO stakeholders, and acts as a trusted advisor
    • Develop the project management community of practice to facilitate collaboration and best-practice sharing among project managers, key PMO stakeholders and business units.
    • Own the ‘Knowledge Hub’ and ensure communication and dissemination of ‘Good practice’
    • Management of direct reporting staff
    • Support Project Management Champions in providing guidance and coaching to novice project managers or new project managers 

    Skills / Qualifications

    Technical Skills, Knowledge and Experience

    • Experience of the PMO, Project and Programme environment
    • Experienced in developing and establishing a PMO
    • Knowledge of HR and people management practices 
    • Knowledge of project management processes, techniques and tools
    • Extensive project experience on low-high complexity projects through the full project life cycle
    • Experience in CPD and mentoring
    • Experience in the development of ‘best practice’ and organisational standards or processes
    • Management Skills, Knowledge and Experience
    • Strong management skills
    • Confident communicator 
    • Ability to establish and maintain high level relationships across the organisation
    • Skilled at managing interpersonal relations
    • A mentor with the ability to develop both teams and individuals

    • Ability to successfully manage multiple concurrent objectives or activities, and effectively make decisions to prioritise tasks and allocate time
    • Ability to work in a multi-office environment and willingness to travel to other offices as required


    Qualifications and Accreditations

    • MSc or Degree in Programme/ Project management, Business subject, Infrastructure or STEM related subject
    • Membership of appropriate professional institution – APM or PMI


    • Post graduate qualification appropriate to infrastructure
    • Project Management related qualification would be advantageous - MoP, MSP, MoR, MoV , Change Management, AGILE, P30
    • People Development related qualification
