  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is rcurrently recruiting a  Maintenance Superintendent on a staff permanent basis to be based in Teesside. Ideal candidate must have extensive experience in the Oil and Gas and Petrochemical industry  

     

    Purpose / Role

     

    • To support the supervisors and planners in the efficient allocation of resources to achieve the required performance of equipment and systems
    • Accountability for the quality of all equipment repairs and for the evaluation of technician and Craft Operative competency
    • To ensure the supervisors, technicians and craft operatives deliver maintenance in accordance with their job descriptions and person specifications

     

    Key aims and objectives

     

    • To ensure the availability of all plant and equipment to safely achieve production targets
    • To ensure the technicians and craft operatives perform all required tasks in a timely and cost effective manner to the desired safety and quality standards in accordance with the site requirements, procedures and specifications
    • To coordinate activities with other stakeholders to ensure the maximum overall effectiveness of the team
    • To achieve the required targets (key performance indicators) for the contract

     

    Prime responsibilities and duties

    • Provide comment and input into the weekly schedule / look ahead as drafted by the scheduler / client
    • Commit to delivering the agreed weekly schedule / look ahead as issued by the scheduler / client
    • Issue multiple work packs / job cards / job lists to supervisors, technicians and craft operatives throughout the day
    • Manage multiple Supervisors / technicians and Craft operatives throughout the week
    • Solve work delivery problems as they arise. Maintain a backlog of ‘fall back’ jobs for technicians should scheduled work not be forthcoming due to unforeseen reasons
    • Monitor / inspect the quality of workmanship
    • Liaise with and coordinate work activities with other groups to ensure the job progresses in a timely and cost effective manner
    • Report progress to Operations / the scheduler / Client each day
    • Complete timesheets each day
    • Assist the planner / client in job stepping / task estimating / method statement / specification development
    • Assist the planner / client in checking availability of all materials, spares, tools & consumables and preparing these in advance of the task
    • Prepare task specific risk assessments
    • Re-direct the resources quickly and safely in response to emergencies and plant breakdowns
    • Maintaining good industrial relations which requires a close working relationship that must also be professional
    • Carry out personal performance assessments on Supervisors (PDR), Technicians (PPA) and Craft Operatives (PPA) on a six monthly basis or at the end of their contract. Ensure paperwork is recorded.
    • Managing performance levels. Holding appropriate conversations (positive and negative) when performance deviates from the expected norm
    • Authorising authority for Technicians and Craft Operatives to perform the discipline specific tasks they undertake

    Skills / Qualifications

    Essential:

     

    • Technical apprenticeship or equivalent.
    • OR - in lieu of formal technical qualifications, candidate may offer extensive experience in maintenance with an auditable track record of consistently good performance.
    • Amec Foster Wheeler mandatory HSSE elements, Pre and Post-employment elements.
    • CCNSG safety passport.

    Desirable:

    • NVQ 4 supervisory qualification
    • 32/D33 or A1 or CDCA Workplace Assessor
    • Secondary role qualifications (e.g. discipline authority, first aid, accident investigation)

     


    Experience

    Essential:

     

    • Senior supervisory maintenance position held on an industrial COMAH regulated facility for a significant period
    • Good understanding of Risk Assessment techniques
    • Good knowledge of permit to work systems and prescribed permit isolations for COMAH regulated sites
    • Good knowledge of industrial continuous processes
    • Specialist in Mechanical, Instrument, Electrical or Fabrication maintenance
    • Demonstrable experience of managing groups of industrial engineering people
    •  

    Desirable:

    • Good knowledge of maintenance strategy development, techniques, and tools
    • Good understanding of Industry best practice
