  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood are currently recruiting for Quality Leads to be based in Bristol to support client programmes, i.e. Equipment/Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC (MEH).  Previous experience in the nuclear industry would be beneficial, however training will be provided.

    Quality Leads are responsible for supporting the Quality Delivery Managers and their respective multi-discipline teams by the provision of quality management subject matter expertise.


    The Quality Lead will be expected to secure the supply chain's adherence to the contracted quality requirements within their respective projects.  Also responsible for supporting the Quality Delivery Manager and the Programme Director in achieving adherence with the client project wide quality arrangements, putting in place additional project specific arrangements as required and managing quality for all activities within the scope of the programme. Also work in close collaboration with all other project functions and supply chain to ensure that project quality is delivered consistently and is compliant with the Quality & Learning Function manual, respecting safety as paramount at all times



    • Expertise in either the Mechanical, Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) or Process disciplines that prevail within the power station environment.
    • Good understanding of mechanical techniques; machining, fabrication, welding, non-destructive testing.
    • A working knowledge of Codes and Standards associated with the related discipline.
    • Expertise in either the Mechanical or HVAC disciplines that prevail within the power station environment
    • Preferably background in mechanical systems or pressure vessels
    • Good understanding of mechanical techniques; machining, fabrication, welding, non-destructive testing
    • A working knowledge of mechanical Codes and Standards – ideally RCC-M
    • An understanding of UK and European Industrial Regulations and Legislation; and in particular the Pressure Equipment Regulations and PSS
    • An understanding of UK regulations, including ideally nuclear site licence conditions and the role of the ONR
    • Management of suppliers
    • Management of a Quality Management System
    • Development of quality system documentation
    • Review of supplier’s quality system documentation
    • Auditing / development and management of risk-based audit schedules
    • Management of non-conformance
    • Management of inspection agencies
    • Reporting / production of meaningful KPIs
    • Management of LifeTime Records or End of Manufacturing Records (EOMR)

    Skills / Qualifications

    Successful candidate will possess a recognised Quality accreditation and preferably qualified to HND level as a minimum.  The Quality Lead should have a strong quality leadership or management experience with a good engineering background.


    Key Competencies:

    • Experience of Pressure Equipment and Pressure Systems and or Instrumentation and Control
    • Should have major project experience, preferably having project management qualification
    • Ability and knowledge to analyse the business and to optimise standards
    • Ability to influence and provide constructive challenge which is accepted by others
    • Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
    • Be proactive and flexible, being prepared to plan and work on own initiative across a board range of issues to drive performance against all dimensions of the quality systems
    • Self motivated with the ability to work unsupervised; able to deliver to challenging targets
    • Proactive, team player with solid understanding of the quality processes in major projects and across engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning
    • Good understanding of workshop and site practices and an awareness of Health and Safety regulations
    • Fluent in English language, preferably with some French language skills
