  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is currently looking for a Technical Manager to strengthen its team in Dubai.  The successful candidate will be an energetic team leader, with strong delivery focus, excellent supervisory and organizational skills, who will inspire the engineering team to work together to meet project drivers and delivery targets.  

    • This is a Home Office position based in Dubai, but it will involve occasional visits to the Client offices and/or site in Iraq
    • The candidate will assume responsibility for the delivery of detailed engineering and design scopes of work on the brownfield projects associated with a specific area (Asset) within the Contract
    • This role has a functional reporting line to the Asset Project Manager and a Technical reporting line through to the Contract Engineering Managers

    Responsibilities include:

    • Providing a single point of contact for all Asset engineering matters, clarifications, queries and Client communication on the project Asset
    • Managing a multi-discipline engineering and design team to deliver scope of work safely and within quality/cost/schedule constraints and in accordance with applicable codes, standards and Wood/Client procedures
    • Ensuring that the project is delivered to meet the Asset operational needs
    • Providing direction and guidance on all technical queries relating to engineering
    • Participating in and/or leading project safety and design reviews as necessary
    • Liaising with the Client’s Engineering, Operations and Maintenance staff as required to ensure stakeholder requirements are addressed and a consistent approach to project completion
    • Promoting safe behaviour at all times
    • Setting performance expectations and maintaining standards for the development and retention of a motivated team
    • Management of key stakeholders during the execution of the project
    • Providing sound technical advice and solutions to a diversity of technical problems across the project
    • Identifying areas of concern with respect to progress and / or quality and own implementation of corrective actions as required
    • Providing feedback on areas of concern to the Wood Contract Engineering and Project Managers.
    • Hold regular coordination meetings with the Engineering team and generate status reports as required by Wood and the contract for engineering delivery
    • Review engineering team technical competency and manpower requirements and, in consultation with the overall project Lead Discipline Engineers, participate in the recruitment, selection and transfer of resources
    • Lead internal audit process and implementation of Technical Assurance requirements
    • Ensuring Engineering team compliance and input to project change control procedures are strictly adhered to.

     

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Degree in relevant Engineering Discipline (B.Sc./B.Eng./M.Sc.)
    • Membership of a recognized professional institute preferred
    • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry.  LPG experience would be an advantage.
    • Minimum of 6 years proven capability in an engineering design company in the role of Engineering Manager or Principal Engineer, responsible for coordinating multi-discipline teams
    • Experience of site-based project work involving field engineering, construction and commissioning would be an advantage
    • Demonstrated leadership experience and previous track record of successfully supervising multi-national and multi-cultural project teams
    • Previous experience of working in the Middle East would be an advantage
    • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of detailed engineering design and project delivery
    • Awareness of relevant international codes and standards
    • Experience with company business management system and quality assurance processes
    • Experience of the application design and safety reviews, including HAZOP, HAZID and SIL Rating to Engineering Design
