  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood has an opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer or Designer to develop project Smart Plant Electrical (SPEL) strategy and deliverables, for each phase of the COTC project (Pre FEED /FEED /EPC /As-built and Site asset management) for our client.   The position is available on a staff or fixed term contract basis, and the position is scheduled for a number of years in Reading UK. The project is a very large scale multi-centred project for Saudi Aramco and Sabic.   

     

    Key to the role will be excellent communication and coordination skills, to deliver a consistent set of deliverables across multi EPC Contractor offices for the project, and future asset management at site.  The role will involve short term travel to audit the EPC Contractors during the EPC phase and ensure Contractor compliance with SPEL strategy and deliverables.   The ideal candidate will have the following general experience: -

    • Proven experience of projects within the Oil and Gas industry
    • Previous experience working on Saudi Aramco and or Sabic projects ideally
    • High level of competency with respect to understanding the electrical design deliverables required for petrochemical facility
    • Strong understanding of plant design and equipment layout

    Responsibilties 

    • SmartPlant Electrical (SPEL) typical administration tasks including Site-Plant creation, application database fitness and maintenance, Plant Break Down Structure (PBS), User management, backups, Projects scope and merge, and Users training
    • Maintain reference dataset throughout database and deliverables: Cables and Motor libraries, engineering pick lists, naming conventions, Unit Of Measures (UOMs), etc.
    • Deliverables customisation: reports, datasheets, drawing templates, symbol libraries for Single Line Diagrams and other diagram types
    • Help troubleshoot drawing problems
    • Help develop enhanced reports, Good Microsoft Excel and VBA skills required
    • Develop SPEL Specification Documentation for the project
    • Develop SPEL Execution Plan for the project
    • Develop SPEL Deliverable Training Material for the project
    • Follow Program/ Corporation delivery standards, engineering practices, department drafting methods and standards
    • Perform checking assignments for quality assurance of the design effort in various levels, Audit Contractor databases and Electronic files for compliance with Specification and Execution plan
    • To be able develop and support SPEL integration using various methods: Point-to-point, Import-Export etc.
    • Basic database knowledge, good knowledge of SPEL database schemas and tables, ability to write own SQL queries

    Skills / Qualifications

    • A HNC in Electrical Engineering
    • Track record in the following project phases: FEED, Detailed Engineering (EPC), Construction
    • Excellent knowledge and proficiency using Smart Plant Electrical (including administrating)
    • Ability to convert SPEL outputs into final deliverables in terms of drafting or graphics (e.g. Microstation, SmartSketch)
    • Strong computer skills and comfortable with database systems
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, Business English Language Skills
    • Motivated and able to carry out assignments in a timely manner
    • Team player
