    Wood is recruiting for a Machinist to be based at our Birchwood Park offices.

     

    Responsibilities

    • To work as part of the workshop team which includes machinists, fabrication and welding
    • To be flexible to help in other areas besides machining if required.
    • To work with the workshop manager and project teams / engineers to understand project needs for the components being machined to ensure appropriate components are manufactured
    • To support the workshop manager in estimating hours to manufacture components.
    • To manufacture one off or small batches of parts.

     

     

     

    Skills / Qualifications

     

    Essential

    • Be conversant with all types of work including screw cutting on conventional lathes and milling machines fitted with DRO’s.
    • Be able to work to engineering drawings and tolerances.
    • Be able to come up with best practice solutions for the machining of components.
    • Be flexible to work outside of the machine shop, assisting in assembly/fitting/maintenance duties and assisting in the fabrication shop.
    • To work under their own initiative.
    • Be flexible to occasionally work overtime where available
    • Have served a full engineering apprenticeship with an approved body.

     

    Desirable

    • Experience in CNC machining and in particular experience in CNC wire eroding machines.
    • A current fork lift truck licence
    • Any other standard training that is in date such as use of overhead cranes, working at height, abrasive wheels, scaffold erection would also be an advantage
