  • Overview / Responsibilities

    As the demand for our structural expertise continues to grow, an opportunity has arisen for a Senior Structural Engineer to join our team based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Working within a small structural team, you will be expected to make a significant contribution to the delivery of the structural design across a range of challenging projects across various sectors including Government, Energy, Commercial, Industrial and Infrastructure.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to play an important role in our growing team.  We are looking for a broad range of structural experience in the implementation of the design of infrastructure projects and to play a key role in delivering our increasing workload in this area. 

    You will be given the opportunity to work on some of the most prestigious projects across the UK. Key clients include Heathrow, Homes England, Local Authorities and Waste Authorities together with a number of the major Water Companies. You will play a leading role in the design and assessment of infrastructure projects within multidisciplinary design teams and will take appropriate responsibility for the delivery and quality of the structural design elements.

    We are looking for individuals that have a strong base of technical skills coupled with excellent organisational and communication skills gained in either a multi-disciplinary or engineering consultancy environment who now want to enhance and diversify these skills within a growing organisation that will support their future development. You will be able to develop diverse skills as projects will vary from small one-off commissions to multi-million pound projects. 


    Key Duties:

    • Senior member of a team of engineers carrying out structural design in accordance with detailed specifications
    • Client facing and able to manage your own workload
    • Capable of managing design teams and provide guidance and mentoring to junior members of the design team
    • Adherence to quality and technical assurance procedures for all deliverables produced by the team
    • Delivering engineering services/projects to a range of sectors
    • Contribute and lead engineering inputs to PQQs and tenders
    • Compliance with Wood HS&E, quality, financial, risk management, business and policy requirements.

    Skills / Qualifications


    • Experienced in the use of structural design and analysis software such as Tekla Tedds / MasterSeries / Staad.pro etc
    • Structural design of elements in a range of materials particularly steel and concrete in accordance with Eurocode.
    • Has worked within a multi-disciplinary or engineering consultancy
    • Experience in a consultancy environment
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Demonstrable technical review/assurance skills
    • Thorough knowledge and use of AutoCAD
    • Experience of 3D design software (e.g. Autodesk Revit and/or Civil 3D)


    • Previously or currently working for one of Wood's direct competitors
    • Has multi-sector and international experience
    • Considerable experience of working on major infrastructure projects
    • NEC Contract environment experience




    • Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering
    • Approaching Chartered Engineer Status
    • Member of a relevant professional body either ICE, or IStructE
