  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in Pulp and Paper in the Mining and Metals industry.

     

    Main purpose of the role; 

    • To deliver mechanical engineering and design functions for Pulp and Paper projects.
    • Ensure that designs are in accordance with project / study requirements and company objectives and are produced in a timely and cost-effective manner
    • To work in a safe manner, complying with and actively contributing to the Wood Health, Safety and Environmental HSE policies, manuals and procedures. At all times considering the health, safety and welfare of fellow workers, visitors, clients, community and the environment

    Skills / Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • BSc, BEng, B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering
    • Professional registration with ECSA

     Competencies, Skills, Experience

    • Minimum of 10 to 15 years’ mechanical engineering experience with at least 5 to 8 years in the Pulp and Paper and / or Raw Material Processing industry or Petro - chemical industry with experience in the design office and the field
    • Lead Mechanical engineer experience and Mechanical package management experience
    • Ability to interpret and analyze site conditions
    • Plant layout knowledge of mechanical equipment
    • Bulk materials handling knowledge
    • Vessel, tank and plate work design experience
    • Boiler and Steam system experience
    • Piping engineering and piping materials selection experience
    • Pump systems design experience
    • Experience working within or interfacing with a 3D modelling environment
    • Understanding of South African and common International standards and regulatory authority requirements in the Pulp and Paper sector
    • Site experience – construction and commissioning
    • Good commercial awareness / risk management skills
    • Project planning skills
