    As demand for our expertise continues to grow, an opportunity has arisen for a Senior Structural (CAD) technician to support the Wood Nuclear business unit at our Glasgow office. The role will support the UK nuclear Generation Services, UK nuclear New Build, UK Defence and Decommissioning businesses as part of a nuclear SQEP Civil & Structural team within Wood.

     

    The successful candidate will be responsible for producing structural drawings for all stages of design using Revit, producing reinforcement detail drawings and schedules using Revit or CADS RC and working alongside a team of Structural Engineers working in collaboration with colleagues from neighbouring disciplines.

     

    A wide ranging and in-depth technical knowledge and educational base are required to ensure the delivery of challenging project and Client targets.  In view of the desire to grow a secure and long-term Civils capability, this is a permanent staff position.

     

    Overview/Responsibilities

     

    • Undertake all work in accordance with Wood quality assurance system, with due regard to Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE).
    • To work collaboratively and in a collegiate atmosphere in the Glasgow civils team and engage with specialists in the wider Wood.
    • Producing drawings for concept through scheme to detail stages of design on projects. This should include steel, reinforced concrete and masonry construction.
    • Fully proficient in the use of AutoCAD and Revit.
    • Experience delivering structural projects of varying size and complexity from concept to construction.
    • Experience producing structural detail drawings for all commonly used construction materials.
    • Experience of detailing structural reinforcement using packages such as CADS RC and producing bar bending schedules to BS8666 using CADS RC, Tekla and/or Revit..
    • Ability to demonstrate a capability of problem solving and understanding of the wider engineering context of the drawings and models.
    • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team of engineers and technicians.
    • Good general knowledge of construction techniques and materials.
    • Good organisational and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
    • Ability to produce structural models within a BIM Level 2 framework is desirable.
    • Experience of packages such as Navisworks Manage is desirable.
    • Ability to assist Engineering teams with surveys and report preparation is desirable.
    • Ability to produce 3D still visuals and animations is desirable.
    • Experience in heavy civil engineering structures (preferably nuclear)

    • HNC (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering; or HNC in CAD, OR;
    • In lieu of professional qualifications, demonstrable and substantial experience may be considered where professional status could be obtained through, for example, the Technical Report Route.
    • A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the field of Structural CAD. Ideally the candidate will possess 10+ years’ experience.
    • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written. Proficiency in other languages, notable French, Chinese or Japanese shall be highly advantageous.
    • The role shall require a degree of flexibility and ability to travel both in the UK and overseas, to allow visits to Client offices, site and potentially overseas as required.
    • A full, clean UK driver’s license would be highly advantageous
    • Ability to gain, and acknowledgment to submit to UK security clearance(s) (SC level required), as required to support project roles.

    As well as possessing the above the ideal candidate will have worked on projects within the Nuclear sector.
