    Wood is currently recruiting for a Fire Engineer with extensive experience in the nuclear industry.

    Working within our team, you will form a key part of our fire safety community supporting a wide range of projects and clients across the nuclear industry, including Defence, generating reactors, new build, decommissioning and fusion.

    Key responsibilities for this role will be the ability to lead teams in delivering fire safety advice across a diverse range of customers and regulated environments

    Skills / Qualifications


    • Experience of working within the regulated environment of the nuclear industry. Be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of different regulators.
    • Demonstrable knowledge and understanding of fire and explosion safety across a varied customer base, including defence and Civil Nuclear industry.
    • Strong communication skills with stakeholders both internally and externally.
    • Track record and demonstrable ability to manage teams producing fire and explosion risk assessment to time quality, cost and customer satisfaction.
    • Ability to work in a team in a multidisciplinary environment.
    • Self-motivated, with an ability and desire to work collaboratively with other teams and/or organisations to create new opportunities.
    • Based in our in Birchwood office.
    • Must be flexible to travel and work at customer sites for both long and short durations 

    Desirable Experience

    • Understanding or having worked at Barrow, Dounreay.
    • Sound working knowledge of Building Regulation’s Approved Document B and BS 9999
    • Familiarity of fire modelling techniques of the SFPE Handbook, Drysdale, USNRC fire dynamic tools
    • ATEX DSEAR Hazardous Area Classification
    • Deterministic nuclear fire risk assessments around complex industrial facilities
    • TNO Methods for the Calculation of Physical Effects, CPR 14E including Multi-Energy Method and pressure vessel bursts.
    • Membership of the Institute of Fire Engineers
    • CFAST/FDS fire modelling experience
    • Thermal radiation consequence assessment
    • Major hazard assessments including fireball, poolfire, jet fire and flashfire fire scenarios
