  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is seeking to recruit a Software and Data Science Engineer to be part of a leading global subsea operations support based in our Galway office.  This is a significant opportunity to develop your career and thrive in a problem solving, solutions-focused environment, building and deploying data driven models and helping our global customers realise significant efficiency and value improvements.

     

    • Data engineering (i.e. importing, cleaning, wrangling and storing of data) for use in model generation and app building
    • Feature engineering to create powerful predictor features to improve accuracy and overall predictive capability of machine learning models
    • Applying the latest machine learning techniques to solve important business problems in the areas of asset/production management and predictive maintenance
    • Prototyping and deploying data driven web applications using high-level programming languages such as R and/or Python
    • Participating in an Agile/Scrum methodology

     

    Skills / Qualifications

    Competencies, Skills and Other Requirements:

    • Comfortable exploring engineering and sensor data from equipment and machines (e.g. pressures, temperatures, flowrates, fluid densities) to derive insight (working alongside various subject matter experts internal and external to the business)
    • High STEM performer with strong mathematical track record
    • Track record (reference projects from workplace, academia, etc.) working with at least one high-level rapid prototyping language such as R or Python
    • Working knowledge of SQL for data access, manipulation, and validation
    • Knowledge of a scalable/Big Data language such as Scala/Spark (not essential but would be an advantage)
    • Working knowledge of at least one main-stream cloud computing service such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (not essential but would be an advantage)
    • Strong visualization and presentation layer design skills and appreciation
    • Comfortable learning new technologies and working in a fast-paced environment
    • Confidence and ability to work autonomously
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Open to travel to assist with execution of short- and medium-term projects across the global business if required

     

    Qualifications/Experience requirements:

    • Bachelor’s or post-graduate degree in computer science / engineering
    • Experience working with large and complex data sets
    • Experience working with data and features derived from engineering/industrial sources
    • Experience building and deploying machine learning models to solve problems
    • Additional qualification in a discipline such as data science, analytics, statistics or a related quantitative field would be an advantage
    • Additional engineering qualification in a discipline such as mechanical, civil-structural or electrical/electronic engineering would be an advantage
