    Wood’s Asset Integrity Solutions service line has established a truly global Vibration, Dynamics and Noise (VDN) capability. Encompassing 200+ engineering specialists in 11 offices worldwide, the VDN team work closely to help our customers meet their reliability, integrity and operational performance goals.


    Wood VDN provide engineering solutions and services that improve machinery and piping system reliability and assist our Oil & Gas, Mining and Utilities clients to achieve optimal and safe production.


    Currently we have an immediate opening for a lab/instrument technician to join the VDN team based in our Glasgow office. This position will report to the Field Engineering, Machinery Analysis and Noise team leads.


    Support our engineers in quantifying and solving complex piping, noise and machinery problems by managing and maintaining our state of the art field measurement equipment.


    Utilise your problem solving skills to aid in the specification of measuring equipment for use at petrochemical and industrial sites on and offshore.


    The successful well organised candidate will be a technically adept team player. You will have the opportunity to develop your technical skills and understanding of the measurement of dynamic machinery and piping behaviour under the direct mentorship of our professional engineers.


    • Management of the VDN lab and equipment storage space
    • Maintenance and calibration of field measurement equipment
    • Management of shipping (and receiving) of field measurement equipment to UK and international destinations
    • Quarantine and repair of measurement equipment where required
    • Management and classification of dangerous/hazardous goods for shipping (training provided where required)
    • Electrical safety management (PAT Testing, training provided where required)
    • Procurement management of equipment, accessories and spares
    • Contribute to deliverables and all other reportage required for engineering projects under supervision of senior engineers
    • Develop the ability to use field measurement equipment including transducers, analysers and various accessories
    • Develop an understanding of and complete qualitative and quantitative Energy Institute Guideline type Vibration Assessments (AVIFF) of process plant (onshore and offshore)
    • Assist senior engineers in the completion of field vibration, dynamic stress, dynamic pressure and noise measurements as required (at onshore and offshore sites worldwide)
    • Drafting of anti-vibration supports and production of fabrication diagrams using CAD packages (training provided where required)
    • Act as technical assistant and contribute to deliverables and all other reportage required for engineering projects under supervision of senior engineers

    Skills / Qualifications

    Interpersonal Skills:

    • Problem Solving: Good problem solving skills using a logical and creative approach to solve measurement equipment problems
    • Communication: Capable communicator and able to present ideas to other members of the team
    • Flexibility: able to travel infrequently to global site locations at short notice and work extended hours to suit project requirements

    Business & Indusrty Experience:


    Previous experience working in process industries (in the UK and overseas) is desirable


    Educational Attainments/Other:

    • Suitable secondary or higher technical education (Higher/A-levels/HNC/HND etc.) or applicable on-the job experience
    • Full UK driving license (desirable)
    • Knowledge of electrical safety / PAT testing and basic electrical skills (desirable)
    • Knowledge of shipping and dangerous goods (desirable)
