  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood has an exciting opportunity a Business Services Manager to be based in our Darlington office for our Onshore Modifications Business.

     

    You will be leading an integrated team of quantity surveyors, planning engineers, cost engineers, procurement specialists and document controllers, and be responsible for all project control, procurement and commercial functions for a range of engineering and construction projects.

     

    This role would ideally suit a Commercial Manager with significant Project Controls experience or a Project Controls Manager with an equally proficient commercial background.

     

    The role will cover the following areas:

    • Ensure Performance measuring is actively rolled out and implemented across all functions within the Business Services Team.
    • Management of project risk management process and ownership of the risk register within the project portfolio
    • Management of Project change control process and ownership of project change registers to ensure all identified changes are analysed, quantified, communicated and monitored
    • Responsible for the portfolio of project cost reports and the project cost function as a whole
    • Responsible for the portfolio of planning, scheduling and progress reports and the project planning function across multiple varying projects
    • Responsible for the procurement function, materials and sub contract activities/management either directly appointed or for and on behalf of our clients.
    • Responsible for Benchmarking system, agree the suite of information and maintain the data on an ongoing basis to ensure best practice across the portfolio of projects.
    • Supervise post award contract admin including:
      Contract set up
    • Ensuring that invoices are prepared in a timely and accurate manner
      capturing full contract entitlement
    • Ensuring commercial models and scope of delivery are understood
    • Rate reviews are completed
    • Change is captured in contract variations/amendments
    • Commercial administration of all Contracts.
    • Work with the Operations Manager to develop, implement and manage new commercial models, as required including incentive schemes and KPIs.
    • Performs contract close out tasks including reconciliation of costs to revenue, and where applicable KPI closeout
    • Ensure compliance with corporate processes and procedures and responsible for development of project specific processes to meet contract / client requirements
    • Responsible for assessing effectiveness of current procedures with a view to continuously improving systems, personal and team performance
    • Responsible for ensuring contractual compliance and day to day management / administration of the contract and contract KPI’s
    • Responsible for all commercial elements of Contract including escalation, application of contract terms, negotiations, claims and analysis
    • Liaises with various internal customers (Contract/Project Managers, Engineers) in all areas of commercial management, problem solving and dispute resolution with clients.
    • Substantial experience in planning, progress measurement, cost control, change management and document control on all project phases from front end design through to construction completion; preferably gained in the refinery or petrochemicals industries
    • Excellent communication skills, self-motivated, a positive nature and a proactive approach to solving problems / getting the job done is a must for this incredibly rewarding role.

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Law or Business Studies, along with appropriate professional qualification
    • Master Degree (Desirable)


    Knowledge, skills and experience:

    • Demonstrable experience in a similar management role within Commercial and/or Preoject Controls within Engineering & Construction sectors (or similar)
    • Comprehensive understanding of risks inherent in Engineering & Construction contracts
    • Ability to analyse commercial and contractual risks and make clear recommendations for approval
    • Ability to functionally lead teams 
    • Utmost integrity
    • Good negotiation skills
    • Thorough knowledge of company policies and procedures
    • Working knowledge of published standard forms of contract
    • Mentoring and coaching skills
    • Ability to interact effectively at all levels
