  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is currently recruiting a Principal Structural Engineer with a strong appreciation and exposure to Brownfields Offshore and Onshore Oil and Gas EPCM engineering to join our team in Melbourne on a 12 months contract basis. This role is responsible for design, specification and services related to Structural and some Civil Engineering assessment works.



    • Responsible of the provision of Structural and Civil Engineering services in support of project scope of work delivery
    • Develop designs for brownfields modification projects without supervision that comply with local laws and regulations, as well as industry and company codes, standards and practises
    • Undertake the role of technical lead to a team of senior, junior and graduate engineers
    • Develop project risk registers defining key risks to start-up of the overall project and its constituent projects
    • Develop verification requirements to determine the probability of risk occurrence
    • Review results of verifications and advise on required mitigations to overcome foreseen risks to projects
    • Global reassessment including Design level, Seismic, Fatigue, Abnormal and accidental loadings
    • Localised structure assessment on existing oil and gas infrastructure
    • Brownfield modifications and structures strengthening
    • Define requirements for and participate in assurance activities to assess effectiveness in closure of risks.

    Skills / Qualifications

    • 12 years minimum experience in the Oil and Gas industry
    • At least 8 years shall have been in the offshore structural areas with exposure to Brownfield modifications of platform topside and jacket structures
    • Demonstrated ability to conceptualise, assess and develop structural installation solutions and designs informed by field survey data
    • Liaise with construction personnel with respect to solution constructability, planning, coordination and identification of Hazards in the offshore and onshore environments
    • An engineering degree from an accredited, recognised State College or University. A post graduate qualification in Oil and Gas / Structural Engineering will be highly regarded
    • Experience in the use of relevant discipline US and Australian Industry Design Codes, e.g. API, AISC Australian and ISO design codes
    • Experience in Non-Linear Structure Design/Analysis of Onshore and Offshore Fixed Structures
    • Experience in the use of STAAD, SACS and similar engineering software packages
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with the client
    • Effective time management skills and ability to prioritise critical path deliverables
    • Ability to transfer skills and knowledge to other engineers including remote teams working in different cultures.
