  • Overview / Responsibilities

    We are seeking to recruit a Senior Software and Data Science Engineer to an exciting and challenging new role, offering the opportunity to be part of a leading global organisation growing its data analytics service offering.     Key Responsibilities:

    • Management and coordination of data science projects
    • Guiding and providing technical assistance to more junior team members
    • Prototyping and deploying data driven models and software solutions using high-level programming languages such as R and/or Python and open source frameworks
    • Developing and deploying data-driven solutions to cloud infrastructure
    • Applying the latest machine learning techniques to solve important business problems in the connected operations and smart city/transport space
    • Working within cross-functional teams across Wood to deliver data analytics solutions
    • Participating in an Agile/Scrum project execution methodology using CRISP-DM

    Skills / Qualifications

    Required Competencies:

    • High STEM performer with strong mathematical track record
    • Strong computer science skills complemented by machine learning capability & passion
    • Experience/proven track record (sample projects) working with at least one high-level rapid prototyping language such as R or Python
    • Good working knowledge of at least one mainstream cloud computing service such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services
    • Working knowledge of SQL for data access, manipulation, and validation
    • Strong visualization and presentation layer design skills and appreciation
    • Comfortable learning new technologies and working in a fast-paced environment.
    • Confidence and ability to work autonomously
    • Comfortable working within different problem domains (e.g. engineering, energy, environmental, infrastructure, transport, etc.)
    • Knowledge of at least one low-level deployment language such as Java, C++, C#, etc. (not essential but would be an advantage)
    • Knowledge of a scalable/Big Data language such as Scala/Spark (not essential but would be an advantage)
    • Knowledge of machine and computer vision techniques (not essential but would be an advantage)
    • Excellent communication skills

    Qualifications / Experience Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s or post-graduate degree in computer science
    • Additional qualification in a discipline such as data science, analytics, statistics or a related quantitative field would be a significant advantage
    • Previous experience working in a computer and data science environment
    • Previous experience working as a project manager in a consultancy environment
    • Experience building and deploying machine learning models to solve problems
    • Experience working with at least one mainstream cloud computing service
    • Experience working with large and complex data sets
    • Experience working with data and features derived from engineering/industrial sources
    • Additional engineering qualification in a discipline such as mechanical or civil-structural engineering would be an advantage
