  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is currently recruiting for a Site Quantity Surveyor with extensive experience in the Mining and Metals industry This position is based in Umkomaas, KwaZulu Natal on a 12 contract basis and a local resident is preferred

    Applicant will be accountable for the all costs relating to assigned contracts and should seek to minimize project costs and enhance value for money, which still achieving the required standards and quality

    Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities;

    • Assist with preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the design engineers and / or the client
    • Prepare recommendations for / and contract modifications
    • Undertaking costs analysis for variations on contracts
    • Performing risk and value management and cost control
    • Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks
    • Preparing and analysing costing for tenders
    • Carrying out tender commercial adjudications and preparing recommendation documents for award of contracts
    • Providing advice on contractual claims
    • Mitigating Additional Costs and Contractual Claims
    • Analysing outcomes and writing detailed monthly progress reports with revised estimated final costs estimates
    • Valuing completed work monthly and prepare Payment Certificates for approval
    • Attend all Site Progress Meetings and take Minutes of Meeting
    • Site instructions / site variation request procedure – measurement, costing etc
    • Client liaison
    • Verification of Certificate quantities etc on measurable and Lump Sum basis packages monthly
    • Verification of all Site measurements ie excavations, etc

    Skills / Qualifications

    • National diplomo in Quantity Surveying / Construction Management
    • Thorough knowledge of standard forms of contract, NEC and FIDIC
    • Thorough understanding of the Construction Industry Development Board, CIDB, procurement process
    • Computer literate
    • Knowledge of the industry and participants
    • Ability to communicate effectively
    • Ability to negotiate effectively
    • Ability to draft and administer contracts
    • 2 – 5 years industry - relevant experience
