  • Overview / Responsibilities

    Wood is currently recruiting for a Senior Principal Piping Designer with extensive experience in the oil and gas petrochemical industry using PDMS or E3D. This role will be on a contract basis at either the Staines or Woking offices.

    The successful candidate will be required to carry out various piping activities and preparation of deliverables as necessary on their appointed project:

    • Act as Piping Lead Designer when required.
    • Planning, scheduling and execution of discipline activities and deliverables, including manhour estimating when requested. 
    • Manage discipline work to the required schedule and manpower allocation, including requesting personnel as identified by the plan, and day-to-day supervision of piping discipline personnel on the project when requested.
    • Liaise with project team and client to determine piping project reporting needs when required.
    • Produce Piping Basis of Design (BOD) & Project Execution Plan (PEP) input for projects as required.
    • Produce designs for piping systems and equipment layouts for procurement, construction, installation, commissioning and safe operation.
    • Adhere to Wood engineering procedures for design safety and adopt safe attitudes towards engineering design and raising features affecting the safety and integrity of the project with appropriate authorities.
    • Produce deliverables for piping systems and equipment layouts using the AVEVA PDMS or E3D (3D) and AutoCAD (2D) CAD systems. 
    • Sign off drawings and documents as originator/checker in accordance with correct procedures.
    • Ensure engineering and design quality, technical accuracy of drawings, material quantities etc.
    • Report on work status, problem areas and team requirements on a regular basis.
    • Review 3D model and/or 2D piping package to confirm adherence to Wood and Client standards & procedures. Utilise 3D design software tools as appropriate.

    Skills / Qualifications

    • Extensive experience in onshore process plant and refinery projects, working for a major contracting company
    • Experience working in a variety of projects including Concept, Pre-FEED, FEED and EPC for both brownfield and greenfield developments
    • Strong knowledge of pipe routing best practices, with an ability to produce safe and efficient piping and equipment layouts quickly
    • An understanding of all aspects of Piping design considerations, including stress analysis, materials, industry codes and standards and specifications
    • A proactive approach to resolving design issues in collaboration with the Piping team and interfacing disciplines
    • Experience in using intelligent CAD systems in the production of smart deliverables
