  • Overview / Responsibilities

    The Asset Management and Operational Services service line of Wood Clean Energy, has an opportunity for a OTS Engineer to join our busy, friendly, and agile team who focus on operating, maintaining and optimising wind turbine generators. This role is initially particularly focussed towards the prestigious 7 MW Levenmouth Development Turbine based in Fife on behalf of the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult on their research and development prototype turbine with involvement in many leading edge technology demonstration projects.


    We are inviting applications from people with a wide range of expertise, ideally with prior experience of wind turbine generators and/or rotating machinery condition monitoring experience.




    • Development/implementation of structural and drivetrain monitoring systems, data analysis and reporting for wind turbines
    • Create technical specifications for proposed systems, liaising with technicians for practical insights.
    • Characterisation of inflow conditions, dynamic response and resulting fatigue loading.
    • Involvement in the development and implementation of asset integrity management programs.
    • Analyse operational data and identify performance improvements / trends / anomalies.
    • Prepare written reports of investigation findings and recommend operation strategies
    • Support project planning, scheduling, resource allocation, project accounting, and control.
    • Management of turbine inspections (blades, drivetrains, structural integrity, end of warranty).

    Essential Skills & Qualifications

    Our ideal candidate will thrive working in a small team and being involved in all aspects of active projects, from concept through proposal, implementation and completion. There will be significant scope for developing projects in new areas of interest, working in conjunction with other teams across the Wood business. We are looking for a person who is inquisitive, willing to take on projects and have the necessary drive and passion for problem solving and delivery of projects.


    • Relevant university qualifications in electrical / mechanical / renewable engineering.
    • Relevant hands-on experience in renewables, mechanical and/or electrical related (or similar) position.
    • Wind energy experience highly regarded
    • Committed to working in a client-focused and high service-orientated business to provide engineering solutions.
    • High level English literacy and report writing skills.
    • A high regard for, and practice of, safety and health safe systems of work.
    • Excellent computer skills including MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint. Ideally also including Matlab, Python, R or other coding experience which would be highly regarded.
    • Understanding of SCADA systems, vibration and strain analysis, PLC and controller code would be considered advantageous.
    • Experience of wind turbine aeroelastic load modelling and analysis would be a benefit.
    • Ability (i.. full driving licence and passport) and willingness to travel to various sites and locations across the UK and potentially beyond.
